Waverly Melt![]() 5/30/00
The Waverly is actually one of the few downtown diners, and it's pretty good. You may have to wait a while for a booth, or even a seat at the counter, and the service can be mindbogglingly slow, but the food is good.
Of especial note, and the only dish I get, is the Waverly Melt, an artery-clogging delight. The Waverly Melt is a cheeseburger with sauteed onions on grilled white bread. Or, it's a grilled cheese sandwich with a burger inside. Your mouth can't decide. Is it grilled cheese? Is it cheeseburger? It's both. The Waverly Melt Deluxe gives you the Waverly Melt, a hugs side of thick cut, crispy fries, an onion ring or two, a pickle, lettuce and tomato, and a little paper cup of cole slaw of questionable provenance. A feast for a king.
Their shakes and floats are very good, as well |
